The 128th Air Refueling Wing's Airman and Family Readiness Program hosted a base-wide holiday party at Gen. Mitchell International Airport on Saturday, Dec. 4, 2010.

"The 128th's holiday party brings people together," said Elaine Schachelmayer, the AFRP manager. She went on to say that the event was an opportunity to thank the military community and celebrate the holiday season.

Elaine also said the holiday party is important for morale.

"We all have a sense of belonging, and that's central to why we come together," she said. "[Everyone here] takes part in a very proud heritage."

Furthermore, Elaine said the holiday party was the product of teamwork rather than the work of one office. She said the party was a success due to the contributions of the volunteering Airmen and their families, the Air Force Sergeants Association - Chapter 851, and the Association for Families.

Staff Sgt. Jeremy Wilson, the AFRP assistant, agreed with Elaine, saying the volunteers made the holiday party happen. He also extended specific notice to Tech. Sgt. Sonya Villwock, Tech. Sgt. Melissa Bauer, and Tech. Sgt. Christina Chiu; they are sisters stationed at the 128th ARW, and they participated in the party by dressing as elves. Their mother, Linda Villwock, also volunteered: she was dressed as Mrs. Claus.

Elaine also commented on the holiday season.

"We all celebrate the holidays in different ways," she said. "This is a great time to look back and see what was meaningful in the past year, to see the things we didn't do so well, and to look ahead at the coming year."

Approximately 300 Airmen, military spouses and their children attended the holiday party.
