A close up of the cone and fan blades of a KC-135 Stratotanker’s F108 turbofan engine. The KC-135 has four engines mounted under their swept wings. The engines, an upgrade from previous models and designated as a KC-135R, can offload 50 percent more fuel, are 25 percent more fuel efficient, costs 25 percent less to operate and are 96 percent quieter than the previous KC-135A models.
